Teckentrup sound insulated doors

Multi-purpose: Sound insulation combined with fire, smoke and burglar protection for optically attractive solutions
Doors are particularly important for sound insulation: Because doors are the potential weak spots. To ensure noise protection functions correctly, the components have to close tightly and be fitted with special insulating materials. Sound insulated doors achieve noise damping values of over 50 dB as multi-purpose doors (e.g. -T90-1 Teckentrup OS-72-), incl. fire and smoke protection.
Dampening machine noise, protecting offices from the noise of neighbouring production sites, soundproofing cinemas, discos or conference centres - all this requires exceptional sound insulated doors. Because if the doors hardly stop the noise, even the best sound-proof wall is a waste of time: Noise will always find a weak spot -A sound insulated door has to close very tightly - and it requires a special door leaf design with very thick insulating material to ensure that no sound can escape,- says Friedhelm Schwake, head of development at Teckentrup (Verl).
From functional to attractive
Sound insulation standards are specified for numerous applications - e.g. for housing construction, public buildings and industrial plants. In these cases, only approved doors can be used. The European standards DIN EN 20140 and DIN EN ISO 717-1 have applied for some time now. They define the testing and evaluation of the decibel values for the "proven sound insulation Rw".
If you are just looking for soundproofing, robust steel doors are the right choice. Highly sound insulated doors achieve values of up to 55 dB. By comparison: Doors in sanatoria and hospitals - i.e. buildings in which the inhabitants usually require peace and quiet, the minimum protection is specified at 37 dB.
Very often further door requirements are expected, such as fire and smoke protection. Multi-purpose doors have been designed to fulfil these tasks. For example, many Teckentrup fire-proof doors combine sound insulation, fire and smoke protection, burglar resistance and heat insulation in just one element.
Installation tips
Errors during installation can soon result in the loss of the soundproofing effect. Therefore, installation requires great care. The following aspects have to be considered carefully:
- Frame: Usually the space between the wall and the frame has to be completely filled with mortar, mineral wool or PU foam. (Always adhere to the manufacturer-s instructions!)
- Floor: Retractable bottom seals have to be set exactly to ensure they close properly. Alternatively it is possible to use sliding threshold and rabbet --- seals.
- Wall: The sound insulation of the wall should be at least 10 dB greater than that of the door.
With highly sound insulated doors (e.g. dw 75-1 / S -Teckentrup-) it is quite common to use pre-locking door handles which increase the contact pressure between the door leaf and the frame.
