After 120 years, everyone could do with a renovation. This is no different for one of the world's most traditional, largest, and most important science and technology museums – the Deutsches Museum in Munich. Special challenges: The renovation took place during ongoing operations, and solutions had to be found for existing conditions. Different existing walls, supplemented by new masonry, reinforced concrete, and lightweight walls as well as steel structures, also presented a variety of installation situations for door planning.
There are also a number of additional challenges to overcome when it comes to fire protection and doors. 200 steel doors from Teckentrup were installed in the Deutsches Museum, including mainly fire-retardant and fire-resistant doors, but also hatches. During the planning and implementation phases, the project team worked closely together and often found individual solutions that enabled the museum areas to reopen quickly.
