After 18 months of construction, the Lünen fire department moved into its new home in spring 2012. The buildings on the 14,200 m² site of the fire and rescue station feature 47 “SL” industrial sectional doors and numerous fire doors.
When human lives are at stake, every second counts, so the technology must be reliable. The new Lünen fire station is proof that technology and function can also look attractive. The city invested €13 million – the largest single municipal investment in the last 30 years – and at the same time created a fire station that meets the latest standards. The architecture of the Lünen fire station is reminiscent of the clear design language of the Bauhaus era. The simple, straightforward lines embody an unpretentious self-image: The functionality of the facility is important – the doors are a prime example of this: the robust sectional doors (Teckentrup SL) with a high proportion of glass provide plenty of daylight in the halls, and the gray aluminum color blends discreetly and harmoniously into the light-colored façade.
