Elbe Philharmonic Hall Hamburg

When standing on the Elphi Plaza and gazing out over the River Elbe, or listening to the masterfully performed music in the concert hall, one certainly does not think about how many passageways one has passed through unnoticed on the way to one's destination, and how safe they were. It's a good thing that planners take care of this well in advance. And so, in a building like the Elbphilharmonie, first-class products are not only installed in the visible areas where aesthetics are paramount, but in all areas. In a concert hall with a main stage that can seat 2,100 spectators, for example, the escape routes have to be planned with particular care. In such an outstanding building, interior design also plays an important role down to the last detail. Therefore, doors and gates should be selected not only on the basis of functional criteria, but also on aesthetic criteria. Fire protection and smoke protection must be reconciled with the design requirements.

Even though the doors have a uniform appearance, their functions vary greatly. Depending on where they are used, there are single or double-leaf versions, sometimes as T30 or T90 doors, sometimes with and sometimes without smoke protection. Where special sound insulation was required, special fastenings were used. Around one sixth of the doors open automatically and 40 per cent of the doors are connected to the access control system, the burglar alarm system or the central smoke extraction system. In order to keep escape routes and access points open for disadvantaged people, some fire doors even have to open automatically. Such unusual solutions demonstrate why Teckentrup stands for “door solutions”. In total, there are more than 15 different frame designs with a uniform appearance.
