Smoke is at least as dangerous to life as fire. In the event of an accident, just a few breaths of the hot and toxic smoke gases can lead to unconsciousness or death. Not only fire, but also smoke poses the greatest danger and must ideally be reduced or prevented from the outset with smoke protection doors. Our smoke protection doors are tested according to EN 1634-3, they have building authority test certificates according to DIN 18095-1 (only RS-1/2-62) and fulfil the requirements of the future European standard specifications: S200 according to EN 13501-2. If a fire breaks out in a room, the smoke control doors tested according to DIN 18095 are automatically closed by door closers. Special seals on three sides and a floor seal adapted to the use reliably prevent the passage of smoke. State-of-the-art door technology ensures convenient automation and reliable safety. With the help of suitable retrofit systems, it is nowadays also possible to retrofit a smoke protection function to existing fire protection closures without any problems. Before this happens, however, the responsible building supervisory authority should be consulted so that all steps can be planned.
Areas of application:
Single-family houses, housing estates
Schools, clinics
Industrial plants, offices
Cinemas, large garages
A smoke protection door is tasked with preventing the entrance of smoke for as long as possible in the event of fire. They are used, for example, to separate hallways with a length of at least 30 meters as well as in stairways and hallway closures. This creates smoke-free zones and escape or emergency routes so people can leave and evacuate the respective building. Smoke protection doors must, like fire protection doors, close by themselves and be equipped with a latch lock and a circumferential seal. They can be kept open only with a specially approved hold-open device. The doors must be equipped with special locks that have a spring latch.
With fire protection doors, the protective effect (fire resistance time) is limited by time. With smoke protection doors, this cannot be stated with certainty. This is because the tolerated smoke volume depends on the ventilation conditions (the air transfer rate) and the size and height, primarily, of the respective room, among other things. Roughly speaking, an approximately 30 metre long hallway can be passed through safely without wearing a respiratory device for about ten minutes, with the current limit values and so-called incipient fire. Smoke protection doors are equipped with seals that go around three sides. They are made from various materials such as steel, glass or wood. On the bottom section, they are equipped with a retractable bottom seal. Per DIN 18095, double-leaf doors must have a door closer on every leaf and a so-called door selector.
Smoke-protection doors must close automatically in order to prevent the permeation of smoke in the event of fire.
Smoke-protection doors must be installed anywhere where their use is required by construction standards for smoke protection doors.
Smoke protection doors are required by law in various buildings, enterprises and certain public facilities. According to DIN 18095, they must ensure a free and, above all else, safe escape path. In recent years, it has been shown that the most common and greatest danger is the progression of smoke, not heat, in the event of a fire. The doors produced for this function are made in accordance with applicable standards. Your specialist retailer can also provide suitable accessories, such as profile cylinders, wall plug packages or screws or fittings approved by building authorities. Generally speaking, doors for smoke protection must be labelled as such at the factory. Before they are sold, they must comply with DIN 18095, since this was implemented by building authorities and applies Germany-wide.
A smoke protection door can ensure that dangerous smoke is retained for as long as possible in the event of fire. This allows people to leave the building easily without having to wear protective equipment. Using a special retrofitting system, you can easily upgrade existing fire protection systems into a smoke protection door. However, you must speak with the relevant building authorities to go over each planned step. The doors are produced in accordance with applicable standards and must meet certain requirements.
Smoke protection doors are equipped with an identification plate that lists the standard designation, the manufacturer’s product designation, the number and date of the test reports, and the year of manufacture.
The multiple functions of Teckentrup doors are guaranteed, for example, by the various door closers, hold-open systems, drives, anti-panic equipment and much more. The door leaf and frame form the basis for a durable door element. But it is only with high-quality fittings and the electrical equipment that a finish is created that realises today's requirements for reliable function with an integrated system.
